Talk
I walked back into my college classroom as the speaker
My first guest lecture, at the college where I was a student two years ago, and the 10 minutes that changed the room.
Two years ago, I was a student in these classrooms. Now, I've walked back in as the speaker.
I was invited by my professor Saranya M to give my first guest lecture at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, to the 2nd and 3rd year juniors. The topic was one I believe every student needs to understand right now: AI is already changing almost every part of how we learn, build and work.
The idea
I could have just told them that. Instead, I called one student up and said: build something.
He decided to build a platform that keeps teachers and students in sync with the lecture they're attending. With Claude Code, he had it working in about 10 minutes.
The moment
The room changed. The energy shifted. Students who came in expecting a talk were watching one of their own classmates turn an idea into a real product in minutes. That's when it clicked that the distance between "I have an idea" and "I built it" is no longer years of experience. It's the willingness to start.
What I wanted them to see
How we learn. How we write. How we build. How we search, decide and work. Things that took a team and weeks a few years ago can now be done by one person in an afternoon. That's not hype, that's reality.
When I was in their seat, the question was "what should I study to get a job?" Today the better question is "what can I build, and what problems can I solve with the tools I have?" The student who learns to work with AI doesn't just keep up. They start from a different place than we did.
Going back
Going back to where I started, and watching that happen, meant a lot to me. First lecture done, many more to come.
Thank you to Professor Saranya M for inviting me back and trusting me with the room, and to Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College and every student who took part, especially the one who built live on the spot.
